July - September
Dear Pastor and Praying Friends,

Greetings in the name of our wonderful Savior, Jesus Christ.  We want to thank the Lord for allowing us to be able to serve Him and to be able to represent His glorious name.  The last three months have been very, very busy for us.  It is truly an honor to be able to do the Lord’s work.

We have settled in and are now focusing on our reason for being here:  Soul warning, training new converts, and attempting to rebuild the church here in Rota.  We have begun canvassing Rota and El Puerto de Santa Maria with soul winning material and passing out tracts in the streets trying to witness to whoever will listen.  To date we have passed out over 2,000 John and Romans and over 2,000 Gospel tracts.  While we still only have a handful of people coming, the Lord has allowed us to have thirty-four first time visitors since mid July.  The majority of these were temporarily in the area for summer and many were immigrant workers.

In the month of October we will begin an emphasis on the harvest here at Bethel Baptist Church.  I have challenged our people to go out and witness to people personally and to focus more on telling people the Gospel in stead of just giving a Gospel Tract.  While we have heard wonderful testimonies through the years of a few people coming to a saving knowledge of Christ because of tracts, it is important that we do as Christ did and go and tell the multitudes about Him.  We still plan on passing out tracts, but we are trying to teach the importance of one on one evangelization.  Please pray for us that we will become the soul winners that the Lord wants us to be.

We reported in our last prayer letter about the government’s plan to take our church property and buildings and turning it and the surrounding area into a “green zone”.  There haven’t been any changes in the legal situation, but we still covet your prayers concerning the outcome.  We have learned losing the property is inevitable short of direct intervention from the Lord and we are beginning a process to negotiate a settlement that will be beneficial to the church.

Our family is doing well and our oldest son, Garrett, joined the Navy.  He will go to boot camp next June under the Delayed Entry Program.  Patsy is taking Spanish classes again and has been given the opportunity to tell about why we are here to a number of foreigners that are in the class with her.  We look forward to how the Lord will use that in the near future.  Seth and Chris are playing basketball on the city league here in El Puerto. Since the coaches don’t speak English, they are being forced to learn and speak Spanish rather quickly.  They are also making new friends amongst the Spanish kids and we know that the Lord will use that as another route into reaching them for Christ.
