Dear
Pastor and Praying Friends,
Greetings,
from Spain, in the name of our Lord
and Savior Jesus Christ! We praise the
Lord for allowing us to finally arrive on the field in Spain. There are so many precious souls here that
need to know Christ as their personal Savior.
When we arrived here on September 5th, Brother Steve
Cooper
picked us up at the airport. He and his
family shared their home with us until we were able to find a place of
our
own. The Coopers have been serving the
Lord in Spain for right at thirteen years and have done a great work
for the
Lord. They are located in Lebrija, a
village of about 35,000 souls, located about 45 minutes from Seville. Bro. Cooper
has invited us to live in Lebrija while we learn the
Spanish language and learn under them.
This gives us a great opportunity to have a church to attend,
Christian
Spanish people to communicate with and the chance to learn from a
veteran
missionary. God has so graciously
provided for every need we have had.
I am
traveling by train every weekday to attend language school in Seville. Patsy is home-schooling the boys and setting
the house in order. It has been a real
blessing to be able to explain why we are here to my professors and
fellow
students at language school (mostly German
students). There is obviously a lot of
the “get to God your own way” philosophy in Europe.
That is of course, if they even believe in a God at all. Patsy has been working on her Spanish by
exchanging English lessons for Spanish.
Anna Belen is a 19 year old girl who was saved in the church
started by
the Coopers about two months ago, and she comes to the house almost
every day
to work with Patsy. In addition to
language training Patsy is also working with Anna Belen on memorizing
scripture,
keeping a prayer journal, and daily Bible reading.
After only three weeks in Spain the Lord blessed us greatly by
allowing us to see Anna Belen’s father come to know Christ as his
personal
Savior. The church had been praying for
him and he came forward in the service last Saturday evening after
another
missionary here in Spain, Bro. Urey, preached a great message on Hell. Isn’t the Lord good to us to allow us to see
fruit of our prayers so soon after arriving here. I’m
glad we have a God that does so much to help and encourage us
on a personal level.
I
have been working with the men from the church here on visitation and
soul
winning. We walk through-out the
village passing out tracts, copies of John and Romans, and inviting
people to
the church services. We have had people
tear up the tracts right in front of us and tell us they don’t need it. There have been some people who read them
and others were cordial enough to “discuss Christ” with us. The Roman Catholic Church still has it’s
talons deep within these people’s souls.
Pray that the Lord will remove the Satanic oppression from this
village
and allow people to see their need to be saved. There
are many “good Catholics” racing down the road to Hell with
their traditions and their church. We
try to show them verses from the Bible, but they are still content with
what
the priest has taught them. To many of
them it is just an “American” religion.
Along
with encouragement we have seen sorrow.
The man who owns the building that the Church rents hung himself
and
died on Wednesday morning. Bro. Cooper
and several other men from the church had tried to help him see his
need for
Christ, but he was unwilling. His home
was the apartment above the church and the services were very somber
last
night. Knowing that right above us this
poor soul had gone off into an eternal Hell leaving no hope for family,
really
makes the battle before us very clear.
Please
pray for a man named Jose. He also
takes the train and I have been able to witness to him and share my
testimony. He is really curious as to
what our beliefs are. I have given him
several different tracts as well as a copy of John and Romans. Pray that God will speak to his heart. Every member of the church here has most of
their families that are still lost, and we ask that you join them and
us in
praying for their family member.
